Don’t worry, the people who need to listen to this will take one look at this and say “Well, I’M voting with my HEART”, because their heart tells them to do everything they can to enable fascism in the US.

I didn’t realize your heart told you to do everything you can to enable fascism in Israel as well, but considering how enthusiastic you are about making sure Trump wins so he can “help Israel finish the job”, I suppose that shouldn’t be surprising.

Biden is no different from Trump. Biden is actively aiding and abetting the genocide in Gaza. He is sending billions of dollars of war funding and munitions to Israel, and using his Security Council veto to prevent the UN from intervening.

Trump’s just more honest about it because he doesn’t need to win Michigan.

If you vote Biden, you are supporting fascism and genocide. The only way we’re stopping fascism in Israel is if everyone votes Green.

And I’m convinced that both the Democrats and Republicans would be history if Americans weren’t so binary in their thinking.

          Be non-binary. Vote Green.

No, I’m just not an idiot and I know how the real world works. I wouldn’t vote for Jill Stein even if there was a chance of a third party win, but in this case, there isn’t, and anyone who votes for her is playing right into Trump’s tiny baby hands. And, by extension, Putin. Though, tbh, I kind of wonder if you’re actually even American after looking at your comment history. The grammar and spelling are mostly good, but there are a couple of slips with terms that aren’t really used here.

Are you even American? Because if you were, you’d notice that I consistently use British spellings. (Or, I try to.)

I’m not British. I’m just trying to assimilate into Irish culture, and they use British spellings.

Edit: Oh, maybe I’m not good at remembering to use British spellings. But I try to say spoilt and spelt instead of spoiled and spelled.

Voting green means Trump gets elected in a landslide and fascism comes to America.

The two party system is because of the electoral college. No amount of “non-binary thinking by Americans citizens” will change that, only a change to the constitution.

As a person who participated as a parent in the foster system in Texas, I’m here to say that its about as abusive and dysfunctional as you could possibly imagine. Kids get shuttled between foster homes at the whim of state administrators. The entire focus of the program is to minimize how much they spend. The well-being of the children is an absolute afterthought. You can and will be sued by the agency if you voice any kind of complaint or try to act in the best interest of the child in your care. And even in the middle of said lawsuit, they’ll try to assign you another kid, because their left-hand doesn’t know what their right-hand is doing.

Its a physical, financial, and emotional pain machine for everyone involved. Absolutely nightmarish.

On the other hand, you have “domestic adoption” which amounts to a bunch of expensive private agencies doing all the things CPS is supposed to be doing while CPS officials provide a rubber stamp. Significantly less traumatic for the people involved. But because the private system is entirely funded by the adoptive parents, you’re talking about spending $50-80k to cover the budgets of all these little independent agencies tasked with finding candidates, vetting households, and caring for expectant mothers.

The Texas model for adoption is the closest thing you can image to a full privatization of social services. It exists by, of, and for upper class predominantly white childless adults. I feel slimy every time I have to interact with it, and the only thing that keeps me going is the idea that I might be keeping some innocent kid out of the clutches of the disastrous public system.

IMHO foolish to focus on the most vulnerable rather than how most people are vulnerable in some way or another and putting foremost in policy messaging changes that would help large numbers of people.

I sympathize with the plight of trans folks and other smaller disadvantaged minority groups but half of Americans are barely making ends meet, and America is falling further behind in manufacturing, infrastructure and technology/research, all while bathroom bills and grooming narratives are decade+ old very effective wedge issues.

Help the most vulnerable certainly but put front and foremost how the vast majority would be helped if you want to motivate voters and win converts.

They just told you. You have two realistic options (sorry, third parties are a fantasy under the current American electoral system). One of those options will permit and even tepidly support genocide in Palestine, the other will actively and eagerly encourage it. You pick the lesser of those two evils, and then you fight like hell against them until you get the results you’re actually looking for.

One of the smartest things I’ve ever heard about Western liberal democracy is this; “Voting is when you get to choose your opponent.” You’re not endorsing a platform, you’re arranging the battlefield.

At the end of the day, Trump will be somewhat worse for the people of Palestine than Biden will, and much, much worse for everyone in America. It might feel icky voting for Biden, but if you truly care about the lives of the people in Gaza, it is the best choice you can make under the options available to you.

President Biden will also announce new contributions totaling $316 million to support the Palestinian people. This is on top of the more than half a billion dollars the United States has provided to the Palestinian people since the Biden Administration restored much needed funding to the Palestinians.

          https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/07/14/fact-sheet-the-united-states-palestinian-relationship/

Finally, President Biden’s reiteration that the only way forward to maintain Israel’s security is through the two-state solution is consistent with the administration’s approach from day one.

          https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/bidens-stance-palestinian-israeli-conflict-call-humanitarian-aid-and-two-state-solution

The directive signed by Biden last month effectively allows Palestinian immigrants who would otherwise have to leave the United States to stay without the threat of deportation for at least 18 months.

You don’t. Not with your vote, anyway - these libs telling you to “vote blue no matter who” aren’t interested in Palestinians apart from the bad optics it brings to their liberal ideology.

Vote your conscience - but if you want to help Palestinians, you have to go outside the “formal” political channels (the “formal” political channels are all perfectly fine with the slaughter)… just like the people who protested the Vietnam War.

Uhm…yeah. Everybody is against gender affirming surgery for minors.

Contrary to what right-wing media likes to claim, it doesn’t happen.

What does happen for transgender youth is puberty blockers. That allows them to delay the hormonal changes of puberty so that they may make an easier physical transition, if they so choose, when they are an adult. In the meantime, trans girls can more easily tuck and won’t develop a 5 o’clock shadow or deep voice, trans boys will not be growing breasts or menstruating, and both retain more a more gender-ambiguous frame.

But puberty blockers have other uses besides gender-affirming care, and they’ve long been proven incredibly safe and non-permanent.

While I can see that early intervention with puberty blockers would help transgirls, it seems like transboys would need to take something more than just testosterone to get the height growth, once they reach the age of majority. HGH, maybe?

It’s interesting how much of the language around anti-trans rights centers around 'men pretending to be women, and they entirely forget about transmen.

I’m not a doctor, but my laymen understanding is that it doesn’t stop puberty, it just delays it. So they end up going through a normal puberty, just at a later age.

Literally nobody is performing gender-affirming surgery on minors. It’s difficult enough to get as an adult lmao

      Ever heard of Project 2025?

It calls for barring transgender people from the military and to stop what it considers the “toxic normalization of transgenderism” across the government and American society. It seeks to abolish the president’s Gender Policy Council, “which it views as promoting abortion and the ‘new woke gender ideology,’”

Yeah, and this is all because of republican footholds in those states and the supreme court. If that happened during a democrat presidency, then what do you think would happen with a republican presidency?

blah blah. its funny how democrats can never accomplish anything good, just bad shit blamed on republicans, but when its republicans on power nothing can ever stop them from fucking everything up.

almost like the system itself is broken and electing a geriatric fascist is gonna fix nothing beyond the egos of people bothered by the other more crass fascist.

nothing but a good cop bad cop routine when in reality all cops are bastards.

Are we seriously using this as a wedge between one candidate or the other? I’d love to have full trans rights here like any other reasonable country but if the alternative is authoritarianism 2016 but with an actual plan this time then I’m not going to complain if I don’t get everything I want.

The most vulnerable person is a black trans woman, she is also a conservative, I did not think people like her existed until I met her.

The most vulnerable would probably be some kid in Gaza without access to clean water.

    But I haven’t met them.

Can I vote for them and, if so, who do I choose?

Given the available choices, and acknowledging the realities of game theory, the choice seems pretty obvious.

Your writing style and intelligence remind me of someone I used to know…

who I fell in love with. He was very verbally intelligent and had brown eyes. I still fantasize about fleeing nuclear war and accidentally bumping into him in another country in which he has fewer romantic options due to many people affected by the war. It’s sort of a warped fantasy on many levels.

I’m nearly certain you aren’t him because of the motorcycle post. And you use Firefox and he used Macs. He probably uses Safari or whatever stupid closed-source browser comes with those systems. I never understood Macs. I should have just bought one and pretended to like it, but I doubt it would have reeled him in. I was naive back when I met him and a Windows user, so also incredibly stupid. Even if I had used Linux back when I met him, or morally caved and pretended to like Macs, he probably still wouldn’t have found me to be an appealing option, hence the fantasy of nuclear war and encountering him in a limited options situation. “I am so sad there are so few survivors from this terrible war,” I would lie, feigning dismay. (It’s a really fucked up fantasy.) You have a similar linguistic style as he did.

In any case, your logic is sort of flawed because under a game theory perspective, my vote will not matter. I am not in a swing state. Game theory looks at things from a hyper-logical decision-tree and probabalistic perspective, and no matter what I do in this situation the outcome is the same. What you wrote sounded clever, but is technically wrong.

If you mean Biden is the least cruel choice, I don’t know if you are right. Trump went to Wharton and likes tall buildings and avoiding large unneeded costs. (I’m bracing myself to be inundated with down-votes.) Trump does not show a lot of empathy to minorities, but he’s cheap. I could see him using diplomacy to end things more quickly than Biden through fake flattery, and even if there was a Potemkin village aspect to his negotiation that was ethically one-dimensional, results are results. At the same time, I don’t think Trump has any pesky mirror neurons to affect how he feels regarding suffering and death, so any success would be secondary to his self-absorption, which could still be effecacious.

But I also believe Trump is in the pocket of Putin, which could make nuclear war less likely, although he would cede to every Putin demand. This of course would wreck my fantasy of having to flee nuclear war and bumping into the brown eyed guy I’m in love with in a strange country… For various extremely convoluted reasons, randomly calling him or emailing him may not be effective. Basically many romantic rivals would have to no longer exist as a result of some apocalyptic hellscape for me to have a chance. What would be dystopia to some would be my only chance… at victory.

Ultimately I could never vote for Trump because of how he treats people. I don’t want to normalize trash culture, even rich white trash culture. I just don’t know if I would vote for Biden as a symbolic gesture. He’s great to trans people but his presidency is part of incredible cruelty and I am not sure I want to add my meaningless rubber stamp to what is going on, as though kindness to LGBT people offers some sort of political absolution for complex and unseen atrocities. I adhere to the political system as it exists with its corruption out of fear, not loyalty, and voting at all seems to be supporting something corrupt and rotten. I believe in democracy, but I can’t change the mind of everyone. In a different world in which I had ended up less lonely, I could have had the strength to change minds with words, but as it stands any voting just seems like complicity.
