I see a pattern in the recent news stories and on-the-ground footage coming out from these raids. We’ll get into that later. The first step in real change is to make sure you educate yourself.

Since this post didn’t care to provide the details:
ICE is using an Illinois law loophole from January 1st to remove squatters (which is their heuristic for non-citizen) and violate everyone’s rights. Since I doubt they verified anyone’s citizenship beforehand this is really some fucking sloppy dystopian shit.
But on the other hand, Wells Fargo does have a financial incentive to reclaim their property if payments aren’t being made, if the building fails code multiple months in a row, and if it’s being used as a slum. They’re just allying with fascists to expedite the process.
So residents paid rent like they were supposed to. Building owner and bank were in legal dispute over payments / insurance price. Some apartments apparently had squatters. Everybody gets arrested by ICE. Did I understand it correctly?
U.S. citizens were also detained during the raid due to safety reasons, saying “we generally don’t determine alienage while in the building,” adding, “no rights have been violated today.”
YOU ARE VERY CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT “RIGHTS” ARE, YOU FASCIST COCKBOIL.
Supreme Court says merely handcuffing compliant children is a violation of their rights. Why were they zip tied and dragged out? Why was ANY civilian pulled out of their domicile without warrant or compelling reason?
The supreme court also said ICE could abduct anyone they want as long as they looked illegal. The constitution doesn’t matter anymore.
You don’t even have to go to Supreme Court cases. It’s on an even earlier page.
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
earlier page
You mean “Republican toilet paper”
Inb4 “they’re in the camps not the gas chambers; no rights have been violated”
Most of them are still alive, nothing violated!
Except for all of those people who were in Alligator Auschwitz. Two-thirds of them disappeared, right? Could be alive, could be dead.
Alive until proven dead!
I think you’ll discover that zip ties are not handcuffs.

That building at 7500 S South Shore Drive actually has architectural significance. Built in 1950, all the corner windows wrap around framelessly, allowing nearly unobstructed views of Lake Michigan across the street; one of the first buildings in the nation to implement such window framing. Unfortunately, in 2011 Mayor Daley allowed a school to be built on park land across the street, which blocked the view of Lake Michigan from east-facing windows. I believe losing the lake view is what caused the building to lose prime renters and spiral into subprime building condition it was in at the time of the raid.
Oh yay it’s worse.
It’s all about real estate with the rich. Netanyahu, Trump, all of this is so they can get land.
water’s next
Oh nyooo, poor Nestlé :'(

As someone who occasionally works with water rights and ditch shares you are 100% right. I bet within a decade there will be a town or municipality that can’t provide water to it’s citizens/customers.
actually, Flint Michigan and several other places in Michigan and Wisconsin have lethal amounts of lead in their water
and the damage done by fracking in the middle of the mainland of the US is still a thing. I don’t know if the water there is still flammable, but I know it’s still not safe to drink
Yes. And also Red Hill HI water can send you to the hospital from washing your hands and Jackson MS has been on-and-off boil notice for three years. I’m not talking about turning on the tap and contaminated water coming out. I’m talking about nothing coming out. I’m talking about water providers not being able to fill their tanks and reservoirs. I’m talking about the Ogallala being depleted to the point of not being able to replenish.
I’m not talking about millions of dollars fixing water mains and treatment plants to fix. I’m talking trillions of dollars for pipelines to carry water across state lines to fix.
Is there a source for the motion for receivership? That seems important to verify.
'Murica is a broken country
It was always thus
It was founded on cruelty and theft and not a single fucking thing has changed
The myth that yanks are sold from birth is looked on by the civilised world with horror
It was never about freedom or opportunity. The 'Murican dream was only for a select, privileged few at the expense of the many
America’s forebears were so reviled that they were chased off a continent. Assholery is literally ingrained in our culture
I mean the founding fathers where litterally rich people who didn’t want to pay taxes. And the rich are still like that. America fictionalizes their founding.
Do you remember the story of the Mayflower? Bunch of Puritans who got kicked out of Europe for their religious beliefs? That happened 150 years before the Revolution and the founding of the country. We were assholes looong before we were rich people who did everything we could to avoid paying our share of taxes. By the time the founding fathers were born, we were hitting our asshole stride.
And being a selfish cunt is celebrated
I’d be very interested to see the full details of that story.
things cost money. And even though the prices of goods and rent need to be lower and are only going higher because they can. I don’t think a large police presence with full riot gear would’ve been dispatched if there wasn’t any worry about encountering violent criminals there
have you seen some of these places in big cities? How the people act? Seriously watch some police body cam videos that were taken in big cities. It’s getting really scary in the big cities in the US
I used to live a few blocks away from Oppenheimer Park in Vancouver, on East Hastings, while the occupation was happening. I saw people openly injecting at 1am while I walked home from work. Worst that happened was being asked for money. Mostly? They just said “Hi,” and “Good morning.”
Yeah, it looks bad when folks are drunk and on drugs in the open, but those people have nowhere else to go. Cops kept raiding and shutting down the independent harm reduction sites set up to keep the worst of it off the streets. No kidding people attack the police, I don’t blame them.
People afraid of “big cities” are fucking pussy ass cowards who don’t know a fucking thing about the world they live in. Cloistered babies, ignorant as fuck. Get out more.
You seem a little out of touch with reality, you should go outside and see what the grass is like.
Police body cam footage on youtube or tv is not going to show you two pleasant neighbors supporting each other, nor the local park with families having little parties and the kids playing together in the space between.
Don’t be convinced it’s a hellhole living in Big City, it can be nice and there’s no money in showing that.
Unless it is right before skynet nukes em all. But I digress.
I had this discussion with a former coworker. There’s selection bias in those videos. They are available because they are interesting, not because the are representative of a normal cop’s day to day experience.
US police are highly militarised even when not needed. Small towns have fucking tanks. I think they just like showing their authority.
