I think 1997 was during the time where I regularly went to the library and got literally as many books as I could carry. We only got internet like 5 years later.

Since you and your sister cannot share computer time on your own, mom has stepped in and written a schedule of when each kid can use the internet. We each stretch it until mom yells at us to go play outside.

Also, I didn’t know what I was doing and deleted some DLL’s. Turns out, those are important. So are most folders with “system” in the name.

If you’re a child being beaten cps will ignore you till your parent kills you. If you are female you were or are sexually solicited or abused constantly and have to keep it quiet. Celebrities eat a strawberry a day to maintain their slim physique because I like big butts hasn’t come out yet. If you’re gay someone wrote dyke in pigs blood on your house and you can’t get married and women make half of what men do and do double the work🙄

    But yeah life is good.

Right. Quake III was December 1999. Too long ago to remember lol. I was playing Final Fantasy VII in 1997 anyways.

Hell yeah. I can still find people playing on Doomseeker, Quake Live, and Unreal Tournament 1999.

Instagib Freeze Tag needs a revival I don’t care who does it.

I have the new version of the original. They sell them a lot of places, like GameStop. They also make new ones with color displays and I think they connect to a phone app too.

I love that brief period in human history from about 1995 to 2010 where a lot of us collectively had a space in the house called “The Computer Room”

The room may before have served some other forgotten purpose, but it at once was given over to the towering beige monolith, thrumming with the chitter of spinning platters, and the Gaussian twang of its glowing Cathode Tube. The wants of the Machine were insatiable, and the plinth on which it lay grew large, cables sprouting in tangled nests for the dual appendages of scanner and printer, servants to the twin Gods of Input and Output. Offerings of Data were made, some square-black and some shiny-round, kept always near, lest the Machine hunger with toothless sliding maw. And when the time was right, the Machine squealed a piercing abyssal shriek, reaching out for its brethren across a dark ocean of unfathomable distance.

And then it was all gone, and now we just have a spare bedroom again.

The Computer room would most certainly be the living room or basement where the “family pc” lives.

All of that is cool, but I was lost on the “sitting in a drive-thru for three hours” bullshit.

Apparently an Italian company (Bending Spoons) is buying AOL.

No idea what they will do with it, but they’ve successfully revitalized companies before. Big risk given how US-EU relations are going right now, IMHO.
