This reminds of rhe Belgian Congo genocide in the 1890s and 1900s. We have indisputable proof of it still… but not everything. Because King Leopold himself personally burned a shitload of documents and went on records saying ‘they have no right to know the details’. It is like how many holocaust perps also burned a fuckload of evidence but enough survived to damn them all…
On this bullet point:
Survivors: “We can’t accuse Trump because he’d sue for defamation…”
That’s really badly worded. It sounds like something someone would say if they were afraid that they’re guilty of defamation. But, truth is a complete defense against claims of defamation. The issue isn’t that he’d sue, the issue is that he’d hire the most aggressive lawyers who would bury them in paperwork. He’d also use non-legal means to attack them, like defaming them, getting his supporters to attack them (maybe physically). It’s likely they’d never even have their day in court.
If there weren’t such a massive power imbalance, him suing them for defamation would be ideal. Because the truth is an absolute defense against defamation claims, they could use legal discovery to see if he kept any records from that time. They could depose anybody who knew him who could substantiate their claims. In a fair fight, the last thing Trump would want to do is sue them, because it would give them the tools they’d want to prove their claims were true.
The issue is that it can never be a fair fight, so they can’t afford the legal risk to accuse him. Even if they could find some mega billionaire who was willing to fund their legal case (the way Peter Thiel funded Hulk Hogan’s defamation suit against Gawker), he’s still the president. As president, he’s immune from breaking the law, and could literally walk up to them and shoot them and get away with it.
Hey, uh… honest question, no offense. I often see people claiming things about Trump, or saying things like they’re exposing a bad person. Why?
Just… it seems like I see it all the time, and I’m not sure I see it lead to anything. I mean, the Epstein thing is widely mentioned, among plenty of other things. Maybe specifics can differ and be less known case to case, but general claims like rape and sexism and whatnot seem quite common. Yet none of this seems to have lead anywhere.
Not saying he’s not a bad person or that these claims aren’t real. And you need not spare him. Just curious.
For context, I am not and have never been in the US
I see it like this, just because, like you’ve pointed out, that it leads to nowhere and that he has never suffered any real consequences for his many crimes, proven or claimed. That that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be talked about.
Yes, you are correct, at the moment it is leading nowhere and my one opinion/voice does almost nothing in bringing him closer to those consequences.
However, that is correct for most things. A work force strike is useless if only one person does the strike, but if that one voice is heard by another and another and then they join in everything can become bigger and bigger.
The more articles about him not releasing the unredacted Epstein list the better. The more people who see the accusations from the 13 year old girl the better (btw there are 20-30 other accusations of sexual assault and rape by him. Even his ex-wife took him to court for it)This is what I’m trying to do here, making it more visible for others to see.
Lucky 10000
And hoping that if even just a few that see it will then look more in to it and realise that he’s got all these convictions and accusations because of what type of person he is.I honestly don’t expect him to see any consequences while he is alive, but I do think that history will not treat him well.
I put up the links to his convictions and accusations so others can see them. They may lead nowhere for now, but I’m doing my part. Also, if you take away the Epstein stuff, the rape conviction of E Jean Carroll, the many sex accusations and just judge him on his business tactics etc, racial beliefs etc, how he talks about his daughter and so on then he still is a very disgusting person.
A quick search by you to look up about his fines for stealing from his charity will show this.
A quick search by you about how he made fun of a disabled journalist will show this.
A quick search about his proven lies per day during his last term as president will show this (over 30,000 proven lies in 4 years btw, or about 4 lies a day. It’s easy to find this info).
A quick search by you about his racist policies in new York will show this.
A quick search by you about his ties to russian money will show this. These aren’t claims either, they are facts. Christ, the russian money thing comes straight from his own son!! You may not want to say he’s a bad person or not, but he is a bad person. The end, full stop, and it deserves to be known by everyone.(I am also not american. I have never been there, and no longer want to go there. If I see a bad person being bad I do do something about it physically or otherwise. I have never, and will never, look the opposite way and ignore it. Yes, it’s got me in to unfortunate circumstances but I am happy to say I can easily sleep at night with a clear conscience.)
Thanks for the explanation. I know he’s no good. In many ways. Just seemed to me like stating the obvious to people who already know it in a definitely non-mainstream platform with a smaller reach (when more mainstream stuff doesn’t even have any effect).
I command you for your efforts! I could never. I’d probably go insane doing so (especially for a country I’m not related to at all). Just hearing so much about the US and politics (especially this “raw” left-right-communism-socialism-marxism-tankie-whatever Lemmy often goes on about) has me feeling I should touch more grass, disconnect more (especially from Lemmy). Wouldn’t be my first time taking a break from this (virtual) place.
South Park still kicks ass, though. That I’m willing to take
It’s the opposite for me. I’ve tried to ignore things but If I don’t call him out I begin to feel like I’ve given up and he’s ‘getting away with it all’.
One day it’s all going to come out. There’s no way it can stay hidden, he’s made way too many enemies. And when it does I’ll feel like I’ve done a little bit to help.
Plus we know from multiple witnesses that Trump is a creep: he would often get into the dressing rooms while models were changing uninvited, sometimes even for underaged teenagers.
Those were also invited to his and Epstein’s home Iirc.
He literally said, on recorded audio, “grab em by the pussy”. So we’re all witnesses.
I remember when that was revealed back before the election in 2016, I truly thought that would be the end of him. But instead his supporters doubled down, wore “grab me by my pussy” t-shirts and so on. That is when it started to dawn on me that something was going on that was radically different from previous elections. American right wing ideology had finally solidified into a genuine cult, after decades, centuries of failed attempts.
Like that time that Bush lost the debate because he looked at his wristwatch.
Try arguing that with the “think of the children!” crowd.
So much cognitive dissonance it’s dumbfounding.
“well obviously he didn’t mean that”
5 minutes earlier AND 5 minutes later
“we love him because he says it like it is and talks plainly”
Cognitive dissonance is a requirement for fascism. “the enemy is both strong and weak”
“Why are you thinking about children so much? Kinda suspicious.”
The terrible part is that he’s admitted this gleefully on air before to Howard Stern. It’s insane that he’s so open about it and his base remains with their fingers in their ears saying “La la la can’t hear you” when the admission came from his own mouth. I honestly think they support it and envy him in those, because even MAGAt women wish they could creep on teenage girls while they’re undressed backstage at a beauty pageant. It’s so damn gross.
In my experience there are pretty much four trump voters.
1: Actual trolls: these people believe in nothing, have no agenda, no morality, they simply want to piss people off and if possible gain power over others via manipulation.
2: Fucking rubes: these people go along with whatever the people they’re most attracted to/afraid of/envious of are saying. And refuse to listen to anyone else. They are the petulant senior citizens brainwashed by faux they are the Tate supporters and Rogan stans. Often the young and naive or old and foolish
3: Predators: Some of these are not so different from the rubes, they are the folk who would rape kids if they could and thus assume that to levy the charge against trump is just to smear him for something anyone with his level of wealth and influence would have done. They claim outwardly that they support him because hes ‘good for the economy’ 🙃 or he’s going to end all wars or he will fix X, Y, or Z tiny facet of American culture that has absolutely no bearing on the vast majority of people’s entire lives much less daily lives.
4: You know the ones: Yes these are the gleeful sadists, the sad ruined creatures who can only derive happiness in this life through inflicting misery on others the xphobes of all stripes who wish to see themselves wrapped in the mantle of power by virtue of birth and nothing more. The lowest of the low and the most pathetically easy to pander to.
I wouldn’t want to be alone in a room with Trump. If i would end up in a room alone with Trump, i think my survival instincts would want me to kill the threat asap.
He tried to rape a reporter that was at his house to interview him.
Not really relevant, but remember when he stole the world cup metal?
Sure He’d sue but he has been losing almost all of his cases.
