I’m less susceptible to marketing because I always have adblockers active (where at all possible)! Most people don’t even see the fact that they subject themselves to ads as issues, even after you show them how easy it is to set up adblockers in a webbrowser.

But this kind of marketing, it can’t be easily blocked …

My god especially on social media like Instagram and Tiktok this is absolutely horrendous. The amount of insta crap my mom sends me that’s literally just ads is making me question her sanity.

I guess people are just used to it and tell themselves it doesn’t bother them?

Meanwhile me when a friend shows me a video with an unskippable ad: fuck off fuck off fuck off fuck off fuck off fuck off

The ones that don’t interrupt the thing I am doing/doesn’t obscure the thing I am doing (non-invasive ones?)are not an issue?

Surely you understand that these sites rely on ad revenue to stay free?

I found non-invasive ads exceedingly rare in recent years. I sometimes tried putting certain sites from creators I want to support on allowlists and always went back almost immediately because the ads were so invasive. I’d rather donate to content creators (e.g. through patreon) than view ads, even $0.5 is probably worth years of consuming most ad-paid content, considering how little ads actually pay per visitor.
