The Conservatives forming from a split in the Liberal party doesn’t mean they’re the same thing.
Labour and Liberal Democrats are two very different parties. Or at least they used to be, until New Labour became a thing…
Our politics are bad, FPTP is bad, but we’re not a 2 party system entirely. The Lib Dems, Greens, SNP, and Reform all manage to have a say in politics and how things are done. They all influence Labour and the Conservatives.
That’s what happens when your country won’t shut up about how great they are. Or rather, won’t shut up full stop.

America is a shit country that feeds its population “patriotic” propaganda from the day they are born until the day they die. You literally make a pledge every day at school. That’s cult behaviour.
Lemmy just opens your eyes to the rest of the world, where you’re no longer in the bubble of America. Lemmy isn’t the problem, you’re just finally hearing the voices of those outside the USA, unfiltered.

I’m sorry that this comment is so harsh because you’re just tryna live your life and already sound down about being told how shit your country is. But Americans need reminded that we don’t “hate ya cuz we ain’t ya” or jealous or whatever, as a nation you’re just insufferably obnoxious and commit heinous crimes whilst making out you’re the saviour of the world, the good guys, the world police. When you’re institutionally arseholes. You won’t even submit to international criminal courts or uphold most human rights. America is a bully nation that is finally reaping what it’s sown.
If you’re an American reading this and you’re fucking fuming at what I’ve said and want to throw hands, good. Use that anger to create positive change in this world. Organise unions, strike in solidarity, stand up for others, become politically active, change your country for the better. Stop enabling greedy consumerist behaviour and excusing rapists, racists, and murderers. You may just be one person, what can you do? But I’m just some dude on the other side of the planet having a bored rant whilst taking a shit and I’ve managed to get you to read all this. Do something to improve your community, encourage others to do the same, many many incremental changes combined can make a large difference. Finally fucking live up to the tagline “land of the brave”, because you sure as shit don’t deserve it so far.

18·2 months agoI wanted to know the same thing so this is what my searching has brought up, specifically for Scots Gaelic as that’s what I’ve been learning.
Speak Gaelic - Gaelic only, government funded, free
IndyLan - for endangered European languages, made by Heriot-Watt University and EU funded, free
Mango Languages - appears to be the closest to a Duolingo replacement. Many languages, subscription.
Glossika - another Duo replacement however that URL doesn’t fill me with confidence that they’re not going down the same route… Subscription for most languages, endangered ones are free.
Apart from the first Mango lesson for free and a few IndyLan lessons I’ve not tried any of these so can’t speak for their quality but thought a list might still be handy.
Nancy Birtwhistle has some great books that can help a bit with the cost of living. They include recipes for your own cleaning products and toiletries. It’s only a few £s here and there but they start to add up into some real savings, plus you get the benefit of knowing exactly what’s in your products, peace of mind from potential health effects, as it’s all vinegars, citric acids, and alcohols instead of (to the layman) mystery chemicals.
And to save even more money they are available on the high seas, although she’s put considerable care and attention into them so I’ve purchased the real things. But for getting started, they are available is all I’m saying.
Obviously that doesn’t help with buying a house or anything as they’re crazy prices everywhere but it’ll save you on your shopping bills each week at least.
They had a choice. They chose money over principles.
In an assumption that those reading the comments here are lawn cutting folks, please consider not cutting your lawn at all, or if that’s not feasible at least reducing how often or how large an area you do it to. Nature cannot survive the onslaught of every home on the planet having a perfectly neat 10mm tall patch of grass and nothing else. We need diversity.

I think you’re forgetting the power of consumers. At work you might not be able to replace Photoshop or Microsoft but at home you certainly can. The more people that become familiar with alternative software the more likely professional environments are to adopt it.
Why would a company want to pay Adobe or Microsoft if their employees are more adept with free alternatives? Especially if those alternatives gain feature parity with the paid services while the paid services lock parts behind paywalls and subscriptions.

Less safe? What features do you need that, say, a 2015 model can’t have?
An ICE that is still on the go is more environmentally friendly than manufacturing an EV from new… A new EV versus a new ICE, yeah fair enough. But replacing a perfectly functional ICE vehicle with a new EV for environmental reasons is just marketing, consumerism, and trend following.
To stop bullshit spying of every part of a vehicle, to stop bullshit waste of perfectly functional vehicles, buy used.
Obviously, fuck cars, use public transport if you can, but that’s unfeasible for most, so buy used!
Especially if you can get your hands on something like a 1.0l with a giant turbo strapped to the side. They’re pretty common in Europe, I don’t know about America.
