I live in Morocco. I keep leaving Facebook for months but I end up going back there even though I don’t like it at all. The reason is that all the people I know and all local content is available only through Facebook. There are hardly any Moroccans on the Fediverse, I’ve only seen like one other person in all my years of using Mastodon. If I wanna see what’s going on in the country, the city and anything related to the region then I am obliged to be on Facebook. I suppose this is the case with most developing and non-english speaking countries.

I never claimed Trump never said stupid shit, but there are many instances where it’s so clickbaity which actually really helps Trump and his supporters. The appeal of Trump is that he posits himself as persecuted by the “woke mob” and “radical left”. He also depicted as someone “saying it as it is” and saying what the “establishment” doesn’t want you to say. There’s some theoretical work that studies how this happens, and I think many leftists rarely pose the hard question of why he is having a mass appeal. It’s not sufficient to just say “people bad and racist” and move on. The modern right succeeded in tricking everyone into seeing the left as this policing and hegemonic force out there trying to force you to say the right thing. It’s so ironic given that the right is the actual hegemonic and moralize force. The trick that they pulled is spectacular tbh and usually the left plays right into their hsnds. The fact that Trump says bad shit is not gonna harm him. That’s his entire appeal. It’s funny that leftist media thinks the more they show he said bad shit the more unlikely he’ll be supported. It’s the exact opposite. It’s the classic childish tragressive thing of “I am gonna say exactly what they want me not to say”. We are in the age of the “rebel punk” right, which is so fuckin ironic. Of course it’s not rebel or punk but they are formally in that positionz while the leftist is cast as the polished professor telling you what to say and what not to say. You can easily see the appeal of the right if you look at it this way, and see how this “trump said a bad thing” is exactly why he is popular.

The media is milking the Trump hysteria for all its worth. The headline is usually “omg Trump said this bad bad thing” but if you see what he says it’s usually nothing. Don’t get me wrong, he does say some dumb shit but it’s insane how they jump on every word he says. Recently I saw the headline of him commenting about a shooting and saying it’s a tragedy and we should move on, which is awkward but could easily have been said by anyone. The move on part is usually said in tragedies as well. But it’s depicted as if he said “omg just move on already” I am actually a leftist and I don’t like Trump but this is absolutely insane.

Well, they actually warned and desuaded Israel from a greater conflict. The tone they used was more direct, and harsher than anything they said when Israel is killing thousand of children.

Well, for example the US immediately scrambled to talk to Lebanon and work to actually avoid a war in Lebanon. They can immediately put pressure when they want to. I think it’s because if dumb people commenting about every little change of appearance. Sadly we live in one of those places where people comment on these things all the time. They told her she is to thin before now they tell her she gained weight. There’s no way to win with them, and sadly usually they are close family members that you can’t just avoid.

I think it’s due to comments from people. She was underweight before because she hardly ate anything. She’s now much better than before but people keep mentioning how she changed. It’s really dumb when people keep commenting about your appearance, but I gets to her sometimes. The same people were telling her she needs to gain weight before. ( we are in a developing country where these comments are sadly so normalized)

The ability to defend is part of the power we are speaking of though. That’s like saying Israel doesn’t have power because if it didn’t have power it wouldn’t have power. The point stands that because of this ability of defense and superior security, Hamas doesn’t do much damage. The same cannot be said of the other side. We are not arguing about Hamas being evil or not, we are arguing about how much damage can they make given the power of Israel. The threat is not existential bu any means.

Read the comment that I’m replying to. The idea that there’s a threat to the state of Israel in its entirety is a fantasy. It’s basically used to have Israel do anything with immunity. Israel can eradicate the region if it wants to, Hamas does few harms here and there. Israel kills thousands and thousands and Hamas takes years to do any damage and it gets talked about forever. You talk about 60 second timers and shelters, Palestinians have no timers and no shelters just people and children dying left and right. There’s certainty antisemitism on that side but there are also some anti Arabic sentiments. Haven’t you seen the Israelis that shout “the only good Arab is a dead Arab” and how they are gonna murder every single Arab they can find? There are videos of this way before any Hamas attacks.

I never said Hamas is harmless. I merely said that the extent of their harm is so limited. It took a security nightmare for Hamas to actually do any harm, and this was taken as such a huge unexpected tragedy. Don’t get me wrong, it is a tragedy but no one is surprised that Israel can push a few bottons and kill thousands of Palestinians so easily. Israel can do in a single day what Hamas would plan for months, or even years. All of this and Israel is good at weaponizing these idle threats of “exterminating Israel”. The rockets that Hamas launches barely scratch few people here and there, but it’s always so unexpected that you hear about 1 Isreaeli that died while 200 Palestinians is just a routine occurrence. It’s a tragedy on both sides as you say, but it is not on the same level.
