  • It’s not about elitism. It’s because most developers don’t want to spend that time on the extra maintenance and QA to ensure it’s working flawlessly for the end user.

Most FOSS are just things people initially wanted for themselves, so they developed it in their spare time. Then they thought it might be neat to share the code in case someone else might find use in it, so they uploaded their work to GitHub.

If you want an exe you can always contribute to the project, or at least make a fork.

  • Latest one for me is Disco Elysium. Didn’t really like its form of story telling. Played it for about 6-8 hours without feeling that the plot had made any meaningful progression.

The trailer was also misleading, selling it more as some form of detective thriller. Most of the dialogue is about stuff unrelated to the ongoing investigation.

I also didn’t like how some actions could randomly kill you. Oh, got a bad dice roll? Too bad, you must reread the dialogue of the past few minutes again. In the end I actively saved the game over and over again to avoid losing any progress.

  • I can’t speak from the British Commonwealth perspective, but from a Swedish perspective my opinion is this regarding having a monarch:

Yeah, it might not reflect our modern values well, but since the (Swedish) monarch is mostly ceremonial and completely unpolitical, there’s actually quite little to hate about it. They’re just the mascot of the country. There’s far more pressing issues in our country than having that confused old guy as head of state.

At least he doesn’t possess nuclear launch codes.

  • I think the biggest difference compared to all previous endeavors is that VR/AR devices are still this thing that collects dust in the corner even among the biggest enthusiasts.

Most people had some form of portable music player (like Walkman) long before iPod was a thing.

Every household had been equipped with phones long before Apple made iPhone. Cellphones were also a huge deal before iPhone.

Watches are old as time (pun intended). Fitness trackers was also a big thing before Apple Watch.

VR/AR? Most people don’t really care - despite multiple efforts from all the biggest tech companies. Is a more premium Oculus from Apple the solution? I guess time will tell, but I have doubts.
