If it’s enforced it kind of loses it’s charm and appeal, no?

It’s a capitalist invention and, therefore, will be used for whatever capitalists deem it profitable to be. Once the money for AI home assistants starts rolling in, then you’ll see it adopted for that purpose.
A 2 week training period?? Sounds more like Israel is using people stuck in a desperate situation to serve as cannon fodder.
The point of my original comment was on how bad compromise is in these scenarios. We got to this point where we are arguing for basic human decency with complete sociopaths. When I read your post all I could think of is “this is literally asking us to choose which demographic we should screw over for the sake of appeasement and compromise”.
I know I’m coming off really bitter, and none of it is targeted towards you. I’m just really tired of this all.
Oh yeah, I 100% agree with you. I don’t know what OP was thinking when making this post and listing those points.
How the hell did we even get into a situation where this is what we are choosing between? Or rather, a situation where roughly half our country actually thinks this is a choice and not just blatantly obvious based on basic morality.
Easy, we compromised :). We said ok we’ll meet you halfway on things that are absolutely crucial to humans rights for the sake of progress. Over the decades the right got more and more extreme as we continued compromising. It’s not just in the US. I see it here in Canada as well. I really hate it.
Aren’t wedge issues for stuff that are divisive for a group of people who usually agree on most things? Something like the effective tax rates for billionaires among democrats.
Accommodating the holidays of every single religion being followed would be pretty difficult given the number of them as well as some religions don’t follow the Gregorian calendar (such as Islam). Western society and events are based largely on Christian holidays. A lot of workplaces, especially unionized ones, give an x amount of days off to use for religious holidays. It seems to be an effective method to help accommodate those who are Jewish/Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist/etc.
As for keeping things going on at work in spite of everyone’s religious holidays…It’s your responsibility to let your manager know when these dates are coming up and book them off. It’s your managers responsibility to ensure work doesn’t get affected by this.
Call me naive or stubborn but these aren’t points I would compromise at all with.
Abortion rights: People have the right to bodily autonomy. Anything less means that you don’t own yourself.
Gun Control: People have a right to live safely and without fear or going to school to be shot up or at the mall. The fact that gun violence and school shootings are a regular occurrence is not a good thing.
Climate Change: Every single scientist is literally saying the next few decades will see some of the worst weather patterns in human history and that’s even if we go to 0 emissions starting tomorrow. This will affect humanity on a global scale and cause unprecedented population displacement and suffering.
Any compromise on any of these posts means you are causing some kind of demographic to suffer and die simply to appease the egos of individuals who lack empathy.
To be fair those ages were set when the comic book culture was a lot more light hearted. They did get aged up to ~approx 16 when becoming Robin when they rebooted the franchise to address this. Still not ok, but they did try to address it without alienating the older fans.
Very true, it doesn’t make it ok or justifiable but it’s a good point to make. The wording of the article made it sound like the practice continues to a lesser degree, but I could be mistaken. If it still does then to me that’s just unforgivable.
I already hated the post you’re referencing and this one is just even worse. Please don’t turn this into a trend.
True, he’s just so well known for the ongoing genocide and decades of oppression of the Palestinian population that the corruption charges are so easy to forget. Definitely helps put into perspective just how evil this man is.
A member of what appeared to be a largely pro-Israel audience policed Gibney’s language, interrupting the producer to clarify that Netanyahu had not yet been found guilty. The attempts at seizing control of the narrative, both on screen and off, didn’t end there.
Don’t you love when people make this argument? “Well he isn’t actually convicted of blatantly committing war crimes. Just well known for it.”
The incriminating evidence in the interrogation videos have already been leaked and reported on by Israeli media. But the videos will never be shown to the public (at least legally) in that country. According to Gibney, Israeli law grants privacy to subjects who have been photographed in official proceedings, which would make publication of the footage illegal. “It’s a peculiar law to Israel [that] doesn’t affect the rest of the world,” Gibney said.
Good thing the internet exists.
They definitely intentionally killed her. They just didn’t intend to kill an American. And even then, this is the worse that they get? Pathetic.
Well that’s because there are Palestinians still alive, duh.

It’s not about what life the children can or cannot have. It’s the environment that allows this to happen and the people who not only take advantage of it, but also allow it to flourish. Instead of trying to find a way to allow these mothers to have children and raise them in a healthy environment they force them to give them up for whatever reason (someone wanting to adopt to raise the kid isn’t the only reason, human trafficking exists). It’s not like South Korea is a poor country where they can’t take care of their citizens either. This is willful negligence at best.
This is how rapists justify their actions. With disgusting remarks like this that try to lay the blame with the victim. I feel so sorry for the wife, this is one of the worst things to go through as a spouse.
To be fair, it’s only me drinking it and I typically make it only during work days. But yeah it’s pretty nice to have. I’ve been getting syrups to flavour the lattes which makes it even better.
Edit: The bags I get are about 1kg which is about 32oz.
I have an espresso machine, so I just buy a bag of beans that I grind myself for about $15 Canadian. A bag lasts me at least a month, usually more. The only other expense is I do use more milk than usual since I make lattes.
A supervisor should understand the concept of respecting people’s boundaries. You could always say something like “Hey I’m not really in the mood to talk right now” or “This isn’t something I want to talk about”. Just a fair warning if you do this, you might get labeled as the odd one the same way you mentioned if you go to HR (the HR one would be a bit worse if I’m being honest).
