Free mandate is about what they can do, virtual representation is about what they are expected to do. In a functioning democracy, you should expect a representative who fails to represent local issues to lose the next election unless most constituents agree with the virtual representation idea

I think part of the issue is that there’s far less parity between the countries in football compared to rugby. All four teams are always at or near the top level in rugby, whereas only England is typically good at football, so a Lions equivalent would basically just be the England team again

If the post was saying that America and/or its allies should re-invade or otherwise try to overthrow the Taliban, sure, you might have a point, but it isn’t
You don’t have to think America is doing things right to think the Taliban are doing them wrong
