All I’m saying is I don’t think we’d be better off if more people started reading books like the Turner diaries. I’m not making a censorship argument here
I think it would depend on the books.
My whole argument has been that more people should vote. That more people should engage politically. Meaning they educate themselves and they vote in every election they can. Do you sincerely think that if voter participation rose from 2022’s 46% to 60 or 70% that we would have better politicians or worse politicians? I think we’d have better people running for office and being elected to office. That’s the bottom line of my argument.
If the party controlled the primary then Crowley would have won. I don’t like arguments where everything is X but if Y happens that just proves X. I see it as flawed logic.
Wait first it was:
The primary controlled by the very party actively fighting progressives.
Then it became:
A rare and momentous triumph.
Does “the party” determine the primary or do the voters? It’s one or the other.
You’re so incredibly pessimistic. Then how did Ocasio-Cortez beat Crowley in 2018? He had been in Congress for twenty years and was the chair of the House Democratic Caucus! If “the party” controlled the primary why would they “let” her win? The only way things can ever get better is by voting.
That’s why you have to vote in the primary. AOC should have taught you that. Also, did you happen to see the last sentence in that previous comment?
Protesting without voting is just taking a loud walk. It’s easy for politicians to ignore you if you don’t ever show up at the polls. That would be like a bunch of people protesting outside a McDonald’s because the food is unhealthy and then eating at that McDonald’s for their lunch break. Definitely protest but back that protesting up with voting.
Your options are vote or give up and let them do whatever they want. You can be apathetic if you want but I’m not giving up.
Only if we let them. We all gotta vote or they’ll fascism all over the place.
I’m personally a big fan of consuming fewer calories.
I think the people cutting down 150 year old tress are pretty clearly the ones to blame for cutting down 150 year old trees.
The very last line stuck out to me:
Markou, the grower, said of the tree-cutting. “You kill your own history here.”
Maybe. I don’t think Muslims are keen for a Christian theocracy especially a white Christian ethno-theocracy
This article says that a higher percentage of Muslims voted for Trump in 2020 than did in 2016. Is it really far fetched to think that percentage could continue to rise?
As a general rule I try to never hope someone dies. Harris is very intelligent and very capable but she has zero charisma and like it or not charisma is important. Reagan had it, Clinton has it, Obama has it, Trump has it, and I think Biden used to have some of it too. Harris doesn’t have any and that’ll make getting elected hard. I know a lot of black folk, almost university men, who don’t like her because of her record as a prosecutor. I honestly think it would be very hard for her to win a national election. I think her best chance would be a scenario like you described where she would have time to show Americans how intelligent and capable she truly is.
He recently called Hamas very smart. I’m probably being naive but I honestly thought that might erode his support among Jewish Republicans. I was surprised they gave him such a boisterous welcome. It could all be astroturf though.
You’re absolutely right that the stakes are incredibly high. I could be naive but I like to think of myself as cautiously optimistic. I do not like Mike Pence. I’d never vote for him. But I’m incredibly happy that he didn’t play along with the insurrectionists’ playbook. He could have. I’m proud that there are at least some prosecutions for submitting false electors. I’d like to see more.
I work with people who tell me that their 401k was better under Trump and that’s why they want Trump back. Some of them voted for Hilary and Biden. That makes me nervous.
I told someone else that if Biden dropped dead on November 4th I’d still vote for him on November 5th.
Playing devil’s advocate. What would your solution be if they couldn’t hire enough female guards?
