As someone from the US i always saw it as people can’t afford to take time off to donate, so compensating them for their time makes it so they can afford to donate.

A few states make it illegal to be monetarily compensated for your blood or plasma, but others it’s completely fine.

It depends on the farm. It’s not completely unskilled labor, especially if you’re dealing with livestock or large machinery like what’s used for harvesting/spreading manure/tilling.

Implementing something like what’s being suggested would require some sort if funding from the government to train people to get ready to do it, and honestly a lot of farmers aren’t going to want a bunch of green farmhands all at the same time. In a lot of cases it’d be more trouble than it’s worth.

Asking someone who has never been on a farm to just jump in on an operation and be helpful is kinda setting everyone up to fail. There’s more to a farm than picking crops and cleaning up animal poop.

I mean, something simple like fixing a fence can be a pain in the ass if you dont know what youre doing. Plus, theres a lot of ways to get hurt or killed if you’re not familiar with the environment.

I worked on a farm from 23-30 and my body is kinda destroyed now. Had surgery on my wrist, my back hurts all the time. I’m getting arthritis in my fingers and knees. All at the ripe age of 36.

I’m not okay with taking advantage of people who want to be healthy. As with everything marketing its about stretching the truth to outright lying and it seriously needs to be more regulated so words like organic actually mean something to consumers and we know what we’re buying. If they want to lable salt as organic, it should say “uses organic cornstarch as an anti-caking agent.” The cornstarch is organic, not the salt itself because it can’t be.

It would if there’s already a therapeutic medication available(but more research could create a cure, or better therapies).

Usually insurance will deny a medication for these diseases either because the medication currently available is older(no one prescribes that anymore!), or it’s too expensive, or it’s too new/was developed in another country. For example ireland developed a new medication for narcolepsy, but it’s impossible to get in the US, nevermind getting insurance coverage.

I’m on one med that was developed in the 60’s and it’s the only one that actually works. It’s over $300 a month. The other newer one I tried made in the 90’s is over $1000 a month and doesn’t work as well. Insurance tried to deny coverage for both.

The problem with older meds is there’s fewer manufacturers so they can charge whatever they want due to lack of competition. There’s little demand, so the few people who need it are charged out the ass for them since insurance will deny deny deny.

This could be very good for people with orphan diseases(diseases that are rare enough that they aren’t profitable for private companies to research)

Also, having an orphan disease often results in insurance companies denying coverage for everything because they don’t have a policy written up for that specific disease… so there’s no script for the workers to follow. Then your doctor has to argue with them, which can take weeks, in the meantime you have no medication.

Yeah, I’m not mad or anything. I wish I could’ve cooked up my own meds when insurance denied me life giving meds because they’d never heard of my disorder.

Diseases spread via human feces which why we tend to not use it. We could sanitize it by processing it, but then it won’t carry the benefit of beneficial bacteria cultures so it’s not as good as animal supplied manures.

The animal industry feeds the plants as much as the plants feed the animals. I’m not sure how vegans feel about synthetic fertilizer like miracle grow, but that’s what will have to be used in place of manure if the meat industry goes away.

Many of the organic crops grown use animal manure to fertilize the plants. I know you can use seaweed and other plants for compost(weeds are already composted back in via tilling, seaweed requires harvesting from the ocean or long distance shipping from farms), as well as cycling crops to prevent nutrient deficiency…

BUT manure doesn’t just add nutrients. It adds beneficial bacteria that helps keep the soil healthy and make the nutrients bioavailable to plants. It conditions the soil for water retention, and helps break up clay soil and add organic matter to sandy soil.

Will vegans keep animals just for manure? Or will organic lables on food be less important? Are we going to start scraping the forests for leaves to chop up an add to farm soil? That can’t be good for forests though. I guess I’m just confused about how to maintain large farms without access to large amounts of manure.

If I went vegan I’d probably suffer a very slow, agonizing death from my brain going haywire and seize until I go into psychosis and die. If my body could take it I’d probably be a vegetarian and eat only local eggs and cheese, but it’s a bad idea according to my doctor. It sucks.
