We have elections on Thursdays in the UK and no one claims not having the whole day off is “voter supression” because you’ve got plenty of time to vote and it only takes five minutes.

I think this describes most of Lemmy, which explains why this place is full of miserable bastards.

If they treat you badly, cutting them out of your life is fine. No one should put up with that from anyone.

But cutting people out of your life purely because they vote differently to you is just weird and petty.

Yeah, I really can’t understand this. I have family and friends who vote differently to me, but I would never let that get in the way of our relationship, and I can’t understand the mentality of people who do.

I mean, if someone I knew turned out to be a full on neo-Nazi, then I’d steer well clear. But if someone just votes for the other main party to the one I do, who cares?

I’d fully expect a program like this to favour white men given they make up the majority of the armed forces. It’s called maths. Or “math” I guess, in America.

If Israel wanted to commit a genocide in Palestine, they could literally carpet bomb the entire place in a day and be done with it.

My point is that slowing down the heating of the planet is doable (though you’d need the majority of the world contributing, which is highly unlikely to happen), but we can’t reverse the damage that has already been done, which some people seem to think is possible.

We’re not as powerful as we think we are.

Do people seriously think we could “reverse” climate change?

That’s not how the climate works.

I have a Pixel 8a. Before that I had a Pixel 4a. Both of these are probably the best phones I’ve owned.

I say both, because for someone who isn’t a heavy user, the only real benefits of the 8a over the 4a for me are the bump in performance and the 120hz screen. Oh, and updates too, of course.

The point when it gets dark at 4pm in December is the worst.
