of particular note here is the size of this town-hall–over 2,000 in attendance, apparently, which Crow says is by far the largest he’s even had:
About 1,400 people packed into the main auditorium, with a few hundred more watching from a screen in an auxiliary room. Several audience members pushed Crow on the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, saying they were skeptical of the cuts and the vilification of government workers.
Crow told reporters that this was his biggest town hall in his four terms in congress—by two or three times.
the grassroots energy to oppose this stuff is clearly there, but it remains to be seen what Democrats do or if they get the memo as an entire party
We need new blood from the democrats. The old corporate democrat bull shit gave us Trump. They need to step aside for the progressive wing. The young people want that and a lot of the older folks feel the same if you drill past their 80s socialism propaganda programming. We want a new “New Deal,” not more corporate apologist bull shit. The billionaires and corporations have proven all they can do is abuse the public trust. We need strong protections to keep money out of politics first and foremost.
It’s going to bother me forever that, even if we do get some sort of new deal, the people who shit up the world will never really be made to pay for it. Like, one time Facebook tried to see if they could just make people sad by changing the feed algorithm. And yet no one hanged for that mass cruelty, and no one ever will. Energy companies pollute the air and water, lie about the facts and consequences, and then are never put up against the wall and shot. It’s unfair. It’s not right. Little new deal changes to raise minimum wage or provide mandatory maternity leave are good, but they’re not enough to account for the crimes and injustice.
The people who shit up the world should pay. In money, in time, or in blood. But if they skate free, that’s another insult and injury on top of everything else.
