I also find the 1st gen of intel core CPU are very cheap. Cutting the CPU might be hard unless there’s the tool but I’d collect old CPUs like toys.

That’s because insanity is stored as a floating point number. It doesn’t wrap, but at a certain point it maxes out at Infinity. That’s when you know you have ascended.
Technically it also exists the negative Infinity level of insanity, but scientists are not sure if that’s really a thing or not.
Propably easier to desolder them and soldering on new ones.
