    I have eaten
    the plums
    that were in
    the icebox

    and which
    you were probably
    saving
    for breakfast

    Forgive me
    they were delicious
    so sweet
    and so cold

    I’m not a fan of poetry either, but this is one I really love. It’s simple, direct. I love the unrepentant nature of the speaker

      This poem was in my English classroom. I preferred the following one, though:

      I saw a man pursuing the horizon;

      Round and round they sped.

      I was disturbed at this;

      I accosted the man.

      “It is futile,” I said, “You can never —”

      “You lie,” he cried,
      And ran on.
