Yup. After taking a few years off after my shoulder surgery I started back at basically 0 weight, or 2.5lb if 0 didn’t make sense. I did 4 sets of 25 reps for each exercise with perfect form, and only stepped up the weight by 2.5lb when I could do all 100 reps without discomfort.
I’m still taking it slow, but I’m back up to 1 plate as my 15rm with squats, deadlifts, and bench press without pain. Hopefully I’ll be back to my pre-surgery 15rm of 2 plates soon.
Edit: I never actually made the point I was building up to. That point was that I just now got to the point where my major muscle groups feel the workout. I’ve spent about 8 months getting to this point because all of the supporting muscle groups need to get strong before I can actually lift heavy again.
But I can now curl a full 5 gallon bucket of water 8 times with perfect form because I built up everything else that supports the weight.
