Haunted houses are a product of the US culture and the oldest houses commonly in use there are from the 1700s. But it also needs to be fairly isolated - nobody is going to notice a haunting in the middle of a city.

The causes might be environmental.
Haunted houses are a product of the US culture and the oldest houses commonly in use there are from the 1700s.
