Whenever a fast food place screws up its minor inconvenience for the customer all it takes is asking for the issue to be resolved.

That said, in my experience as a customer at a particular sandwich place in my town, I always ask for extra sauce on the side because compared to the others of the same franchise this one always skimped on the sauce and I knew it. And that asking for extra on the sandwich never worked, it was always very lightly sauced verging on dry.

For a while I just figured it was habit of one of their employees, later I found out that it was almost certainly their fucking manager’s policy or something because he was working the front and when I asked for extra on the side he seemed annoyed and charged me for the sauce (that had never happened before). I didn’t make a fuss about the charge that time but it annoyed me. So the next time I saw that it was him at the counter I asked if they charged for extra sauce but not specifying on the side, he said no. So I asked for it again specifically on the side. This time he actually started trying to explain/pester to me that “They put plenty on the sandwich already, are you sure?”. I was sure. Dude recognizes me now. WTF how much could that extra sauce be costing him? He fucking running a honey mustard and mayo smuggling ring?

Woof, that’s hilarious and annoying. Food service from what I understand has super thin margins - things like fountain drink sodas (and alcohol sales at other spots) do a lot of the work on keeping the place economically viable. Not excusing that guy’s pettiness but if you see weird behavior around a specific ingredient or item, it’s probably something along those lines.
