“Dont be trans, dont do gay stuff”

It obviously worked swimmingly for teen pregnancy, should work perfectly. /s

Pretty sure the “behavioral interventions” just means practicing safe sex, i.e. using protection, communicating honestly with sexual partners, avoiding truck stop bathroom hookups, only dating within your species, etc.

It’s a dog whistle for homophobia. Conservatives still think AIDS is “the gay disease.”

      Edit: see commenter below.

“Behavioral interventions” is a decades-old term used in public health, I utilized several during the Obama administration when HIV funding was greenlit widely.

You do behavioral interventions to increase the number of MSM (men who have sex with men) who ask about serostatus, or percentage of latino families where the mother is aware of local testing resources. Fairly specific things for specific areas with specific problems.

But this is all done without politics or judgment. Until now.

I have no faith in what’s to come, their version of “behavioral interventions” is likely to be heavily politicized and influenced by outside sources. And they’ll drop all of the useful, evidence-based ones that have been keeping the epidemic at bay.

Forgive me, I wasn’t aware there was a scientific definition of the term. I’m too hypersensitized to the way right wingers abuse and twist words.

          Thanks for the information.

Ha. Hahaha. You think the same people that wrote that trans healthcare is not viable have an innocent and sex positive take on HIV/AIDS?

Seriously, let’s keep giving the benefit of the doubt to the worst fucking people we know. Surely if we just relax until it’s too late once again everything will be ok.

Where did I say that? Since they’re all Christian, the only “safe sex” they believe in is abstinence, which is the opposite of sex-positive. Just pointing out that the phrase “behavioral intervention” isn’t necessarily as inflammatory of a phrase in this context as op made it seem.

I hope that’s all it means, but growing up when it was still normal to send your kid to conversion therapy I worry it could mean other things.

It really wasn’t that long ago that being anything other than 100% straight (at least openly) was treated like a mental illness. I think the DSM listed homosexuality as an official mental illness until the 80s.

The avenues for trans kids is conversion therapy, or the dog-whistle “faith based counseling”; seen with the recent federal insurance ban on covering HRT but explicitly calling out conversion therapy coverage. A practice which is banned in several states but has been challenged by conservatives claiming that banning the torture of kids infringes on their “free speech”

It’s wild how often people comment they didn’t realize that now that you can’t make a false report without getting banned.

The existence of such a rule anywhere on Lemmy is news to me so I am asking for clarification, such as on where it applies and since when.

The front page of this community. 3 months ago.

Bc passive aggressive people kept reporting content they didn’t want to see in order to get it removed instead of just scrolling past it.

So now there seems to be an awful lot of “you posted this to the wrong community bc it’s not a meme” comments. As though it’s somebody’s first time seeing a post to this community, and they have no idea that microblog memes is not the memes community.

Like I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve heard that same bullshit, so I usually just assume it’s some passive aggressive asshole being passive aggressive.
